Day #2: Tension (And Basketball Courts!)

Posted by Kat on October 1st, 2012 at 10:00 AM

The basketball court I describe in Darkness Surrounding doesn't actually exist. Somehow, I believe I melded the courtyard of New Mexico's Sandia High School and the outside basketball court at my old gym together.

The following are sketches I sent to a collaborator for a graphic novel teaser. (The project never made it to fruition.) My artistic talent knows no bounds.

Most of the action happens around Hoop A.

No, that's not a hairy spider - that's where Toby plops down after the game has ended! This is also the side of the court that the stranger emerges from.

This is the entrance to the court. Most of the scrimmage is played out here. Also, this is the hoop that Zanni gets trapped on by the guys.

This is a pretty terrible depiction of the shrub Zanni hides in at the beginning of the novel. I used the below location as inspiration. (I used to have rehearsals here back in the day.)

Because the project is off, I'm going to go ahead and share the script with you. It was written in February and is not without its faults (I just read through it and found more mistakes than I'd care to admit), but here it is.

Wow, these are really cool! It never crossed my mind to do something like this to orientate myself within my own story... Great idea!
